Orange PTN

tied by Rene Zillmann, Germany
Recipe
Hook long nymph hook, Size 14
Thread: black, brown, red or orange
Tail: Pheasant tail fibers
Rib: Chrystal flash
Abdomen: Pheasant tail fibers
Legs: Pheasant tail fibers
Wing Case: Pheasant tail fibers
Tying instructions:

All PT fibers come from a yellow dyed pheasant tail feather.
Place hook in vise, catch the thread at the eye and wind a base to the bend. Ty in some PT fibers as the tail. Ty in some copper wire for the rib, lift the but of the fibers and the wire and spiral the thread appr. 2/3 of the shank, push down the butts and secure. Spiral thread back to the bend. Ty in some PT fibers at their tips. Twist them to form a rope and form the abdomen. Ty off, trim the fibers and rib. You can optional add some wire under the thorax to add wight. Ty in (at the 2/3 point (2/3 from the bend!) a bunch of PT fibers for the wingcase. Dubb the thread with fine orange dubbing - I use SLF midge dubbing - form the thorax, pull butt and tip ends of the wing case fibers over the thorax and secure. Pull back 3 or 4 fibers on each side to form the legs. Secure legs, form a neat head, ty off and trimm the excess. headcement.
For the thread I use various colors, red, orange, black, brown. The fish doesn't matter. I am sure, the most important detail is the orange dubbed thorax - probably the bug suggests a little baitfish.
